Chapter 10 - The Caring Older Sister

[Manami’s POV]

“Fufu… fufufu….”

“Onee-chan, that’s scary…”

Inside the Takanishi house after Kouki left, Onee-chan and I were both still immersed in the aftermath of today.

Onee-chan seems, well, a bit dangerous…

“Because… he hasn’t called me by my given name in years.”

“I’m really happy for you.”

Then she sinks into the cushions with tearful eyes and a blush. If Kouki-nii saw this, I’m sure that he would become Onee-chan’s.

Well, it’s not going to happen that fast, is it?

“Thanks for today.”

I couldn’t help but stare at my sister in shock as she gave her thanks.

I guess I got embarrassed, so I said, “What?” and turned my face away.

Onee-chan, you were really happy, weren’t you?

“But, Onee-chan, you can’t be satisfied with just this much!”

If I leave her alone, she actually will be satisfied with only this and won’t take any action again for a while.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in contact with Kouki-nii, but I can tell that he hasn’t changed a bit. His kind and gentle nature was what made Onee-chan and I fall in love with him in the first place.

That meant that there was a possibility that someone else might take him. I don’t mind if it’s Onee-chan, but I don’t want to see Kouki-nii dating anyone else.

“But… Manami, I think Kouki probably hates me….”

I don’t know why the two of us are talking about this…

“Are you sure? Even if Kouki-nii is taken?”

“Taken?”

“Did you know? Kouki-nii is pretty popular among the first-years, you know?”

“What!?”

Onee-chan, who was in a trance, jumped at me with such speed that I had to grab onto her.

“But there’s no way he’s going to talk to the underclassmen at school… Ah.”

“He’s in the cheerleading squad, you know?”

“Ah… right… right. He’s so nice to his kouhais.”

For some reason, Onee-chan accusingly stares at me, but it’s my loss if I worry about it.

In our school, each class is bisected into teams for the sports festival. The executive committee of the sports festival, informally known as the cheerleading squad, is forced to do miscellaneous work. There are also many more chances to get together with one’s athletic club.

“But how did Kouki-nii even join the cheerleading squad?”

“That’s because… our class has a lot of athletic people.”

Because of the many opportunities to get together, the athletic people are prohibited by their club to join the cheerleading squad, as it would distract them from their club activities. As a result, many non-athletic people, such as Kouki-nii who is part of the going-home club, are on the executive committee for the sports festival.

Well, that’s not important right now. Anyways, the whole point of this is to make Onee-chan a little bolder.

“You know, after my exams, I’m gonna ask Kouki-nii to go on a date with you.”

“Hmm. Yeah. When exams are over, we’ll go on… wait, what? A date with…?”

“A date.”

“A date…?”

It’s working better than I imagined. Wait, wait, wait. It’s working so well, it’s scaring me.

“He promised me that if I made the top 30 on exams, he would do whatever I told him to do.”

“That’s so underhanded…”

“So, I’m gonna get you a date.”

“But how are you going to get into the top 30?”

The two of them really don’t have faith in me.

“If you make it into the top 30, you get a date with him!”

“You’re going to be competing with Kouki-nii.”

“Compete?”

“Yeah. With your grades. You can handle a handicap, can’t you, Onee-chan?”

It seems that Kouki-nii has always kept his grades high enough to qualify as my tutor, but compared to Onee-chan, he is not good enough…

This isn’t Kouki-nii’s fault at all. It’s just that Onee-chan’s grades are too high.

“Why don’t you tell him about it tomorrow at school?”

“…at school? But I’m being avoided by that guy…”

He’s probably not doing it intentionally, so it’s okay, Onee-chan.

“Well, maybe I’ll just go on a date with him after exams.”

“Muu…”

“Fufu…”

Come on, Onee-chan!

After that, I gave a small encouragement to Onee-chan, who looked down, pondering something, and quietly left the room.

“I hope this is the last time I have to trouble Onee-chan….”

With a final thought of, “Well, maybe this’ll be fun for a while,” I switched my mind to studying mode.

I’ve got to get into the top 30 at all costs! I’m sure Kouki-nii, as my tutor, will be proud!

“I’ll do my best!”
