Guided by a half mechanical person, Angel arrived at the hall where Kimberly was located.
Unexpectedly, Kimberlyâs room was clean, and aside from the tables and chairs, there was hardly any other decoration.
Half-mechanical maid servant: âLord Pat, please wait a few minutes. The lady is currently in the workshop and should be out soon.â
No sooner had she finished speaking than a door materialized not far in front of Angel, its surface adorned with antique bronze bearings, gears, and chains.
This was the door of the Alchemy workshop.
When the door, which clearly symbolized âMechanical Alchemy,â swung open, Kimberly, with her magical forest hairstyle, stepped out gracefully.
Kimberly waved to dismiss the scent of fire and rust from her clothes before sitting down.
Kimberly looked at Angel with a smile and unexpectedly said something that left Angel somewhat puzzled, âYou know, I should actually thank you today.â
âThank me? What for?â
Kimberly: âIf it werenât for you, I wouldnât have thought that soon after Fuyiâs return to the Southern Domain, Iâd see the reclusive Muse.â
According to the Wizardsâ Realm ranking of power, âMediocreâ Muse was actually slightly weaker than Kimberly. However, Kimberly addressed Muse with respect, revealing the excitement in her heart.
âDoes the lady mean to say that it was Dean Muse who contacted me earlier?â Angel asked, surprised.
Kimberly nodded: âCorrect, it was indeed the Dean of the Research Institute, Lord Muse. And, the Beast Emperor was with him.â
âCity Lord Rosen was there too?â Angel asked, somewhat puzzled: âWhat do they want with me?â
The Beast Emperor referred to none other than the âMechanical Beast Emperorâ Rosen. In Sky Mechanical City, Rosenâs reputation was on par with Museâs. While Museâs Research Institute was responsible for creativity, Rosenâs Main City District was responsible for combat prowess.
The two City Lords jointly upheld the miracle of Yirong Countryâs sky.
âIâm not sure about that. Besides leveraging your name to make an impression in front of Lord Muse, I havenât found out anything else,â Kimberly shrugged: âIf you want to know, youâll have to ask them yourself.â
Angel had come here precisely to understand the purpose of the Research Institute; naturally, he did not mind contacting them directly.
Kimberly: âThen follow me, I canât handle cross-world long-distance messaging from here.â
Kimberly stood up and led Angel out.
As they walked, Kimberly explained this long-distance communication method.
It was, in fact, a Signal Tower located in the center of the Soul Realm, exactly like the one Angel had seen at the Moonset Country branch of the Feran Continent.
The Signal Tower was originally under Isabelâs control. However, Isabella is now being forced into âconfinement for recuperation,â and Isabel is often in the Garden of Living Souls, so Lady Kimberly has temporarily taken over Isabelâs duties to coordinate with the Black Castleâs outposts.
âSince a few years back, due to the undead chaos, I hadnât been managing the Signal Tower. Isabella wasnât handling affairs either, only occasionally contacting Rosen, completely ignoring all other Black Castle outposts. Now that Iâve taken over, Iâm so busy I barely have time for Alchemy, spending all my days re-establishing communication with the outposts,â Kimberly complained unabashedly about Isabella: âI had even planned to find time to continue our incomplete Alchemy exchange, but these trivial matters have left me no free time at all.â
Kimberly rambled on, and Angel roughly understood the situation. No wonder when he was in Sky Mechanical City, Sanders tried to contact the Black Castle outposts but failed to reach the Black Castle itself.
They moved through the Soul Realm, passing countless corridors until Kimberly finally brought Angel to the center of the Soul Realm. There stood a Wizardâs Tower, which Angel found very familiar.
âDoes it look familiar to you?â Kimberly scoffed: âWhen Isabella built this Wizardâs Tower, she copied exactly the one Lady Isabel has in the Garden of Living Souls, right down to the furnishings inside.â
Upon closer reflection, Angel realized that this Wizardâs Tower was indeed identical to the one seen previously in the Garden of Living Souls.
Isabellaâs âobsession with her mentorâ was evident at all times and places.
âThe Signal Tower is on the top floor. Come inside,â Kimberly opened the grand doors of the Wizardâs Tower, and Angel saw the familiar statues lining the corridor. Just as Kimberly had said, even the furnishings in the hall were the same as those in the Garden of Living Souls.
Kimberly led Angel upwards, quickly arriving at the Signal Tower.
When activating the Signal Tower, Kimberly casually took out nearly a hundred Magic Crystals to serve as the power source without batting an eyelid.
Back then, when Angel was in the branch office, Bismarck used only three Magic Crystals to contact Sky Mechanical City, yet now the amount was over thirty times higher. This indicated the terrifying level of energy consumption for cross-world communication.
And this so-called cross âworldâ referred to an affiliated world of the Southern Domain, not an actual different world.
Angel knew that Sky Mechanical City had not yet developed a Signal Tower capable of true cross-world communication, and if it ever did, the consumption of Magic Crystals would be so great even Official Wizards would begrudge their use.
Considering this, when Isabella suddenly cut off communication with all the major outposts, itâs likely that in addition to the chaos caused by the undead, the frightening consumption of Magic Crystals also played a role.
After all, not everyone is an alchemist like Kimberly, who can scoop up Magic Crystals by the handful.
Kimberly quickly manipulated the settings of the Signal Tower, and as the holographic screen slowly emerged, so did the image.
âKimberly?â a cold, metallic male voice came from the other side.
âItâs me.â Kimberly glanced at the holographic screen, which displayed a handsome man in black attire.
Not seeing Muse, she couldnât help but droop her mouth slightly. Before the man on the other side could squint, a thumb-sized Illusory Spirit sprang from the magical forest on Kimberlyâs hair, bent towards the screen in a courteous bow, as if to greet.
The man on the screen was none other than the âMechanical Beast Emperorâ Rosen.
Rosen did not bother with Kimberlyâs bizarre hairdo but instead shifted his gaze to another person beside herâ
âLord Rosen.â Angel greeted respectfully.
Rosen scanned Angel from top to bottom. A flicker of complex emotions passed through his usually cold and ruthless eyes, but it disappeared just as quickly. âWizard Pat, your progress to this point in such a short time is beyond my expectations.â
From Rosenâs address, it was apparent that he must have been aware of Angelâs advancement.
Angel: âA bit of luck, and some good fortune.â
âNo matter what, it is still your strength. You could haveâŚâ Rosen was halfway through his sentence when a casual, lazy voice came from behind him: âIs that Angel? Youâve finally shown up⌠tsk, tsk, I didnât expect you to stir up such a fuss.â
A face with a lazy smile emerged from behind Rosen and waved cheerfully at Angel.
This person was the director of the research institute, standing at the peak of the Southern Alchemy Realm, self-proclaimed âMediocre,â Muse.
âDirector Muse.â After greeting, Angel said, âI heard from Mrs. Kimberly just now that the director was looking for me?â
âLetâs set aside those trifles for now. Why donât we talk about you first?â Muse said with a broad smile.
âTalk about me? Whatâs there to talk about me.â
âThereâs plenty to talk about. Right now, in Sky Mechanical City, no one is discussed more than you,â Muse pointed at Angel. âYou should know, even in Fantasy Mechanical City, Iâve heard rumors about you.â
âWhen you were at the research institute, I totally didnât see you had any intentions of advancing. How did you suddenly advance without a sound? If not for Mrs. Kimberlyâs confirmation, I wouldnât have believed it.â
Museâs words came out like a barrage of cannonballs, finally stopping and then returning to the previous question: âHow did you suddenly advance?â
âAccident and good fortune,â Angelâs response remained the same.
Muse did not believe it but, seeing that Angel was unwilling to answer, he could only sigh: âAlright, if you donât want to talk about it, I wonât force you.â
Finally, after a lot of irrelevant talk, Muse returned to the main topic.
When Muse explained the reason he was looking for Angel, Angelâs eyes glazed over: âYouâre saying, have me serve as a judge for the New Star Competition?â
âPrecisely, as a special guest judge, and thereâs no requirement for you to do anything.â
In essence, it was to judge the outcome. For the final few rounds of the New Star Competition, to ensure fairness, there were actually several judges. By inviting Angel to be a special guest judge, he could contribute his own opinions, or do nothing at all, as there were other judges present.
It did sound like an easy task, but Angel couldnât quite understand why they would choose him for it.
The New Star Competition wasnât organized by Sky Mechanical City, so was it appropriate for him, an outsider, to serve as a judge?
âThere will be several special guest judges, including two who are not from Sky Mechanical City. If you agree, youâll just be one of them,â Muse seemed to perceive Angelâs confusion and explained.
âWhy choose me?â Angel asked.
âBecause youâve been quite famous lately,â Muse said with a teasing smile, âOf course, thatâs just a joke. But youâve just become a member of the research institute; shouldnât you make an appearance? Also, this is a task from the research institute. Although itâs not compulsory, it can award a substantial amount of points.â
The research instituteâs points could be exchanged for special materials, serving as a benefit for its members.
âSpeaking of which, Iâve heard that recently all the major magazines in Sky Mechanical City are trying by all means to contact Black Castle to confirm whether youâve really advanced. By serving as a special guest judge, you can also put a perfect end to this swirling controversy.â
âBesides, you havenât decided on a title yet, right? Itâs a good opportunity to settle your official appearance and title at the same time.â
âMost importantly, I really want to see what kind of reactions those who were once your peers and who pride themselves as geniuses will have when they see you?â Muse said with a sly, amused grin.
Angel felt, somehow, that this last reason was Museâs true intention.
